Emoji Softies

 4th Grade Emoji Softies

Students have  been busy learning to sew and make their very own emoji softies. They created these cute softies out of felt, yarn, and polyfil. Students learned how to do a basic running stitch and a catch stitch. Students used tapestry needles to sew with. They did take a short cut and tacky glued the face on to their softies.

Students along the way learned more about Soft Sculpture as an art form and Pop Art. . We looked at different soft sculpture artists like Red Grooms "Subway,"  Cales Oldenburg's "Floor burger," and  Jan Haworth's "Donuts, coffee, and cup". We discussed  if these sculptures could be considered Pop Art symbols and what Popular Culture is and what symbols are used in every day life ...

I can not express how much my students enjoyed making these softies. They had such a blast learning to sew that each student made 2 different emoji softies!
