Polar Teddy Bears

This project is a great way to use up your tiny nubs of old oil pastels in the art room. You know the kind, the "naked" old pastels that are getting a little too small but are pretty excellent for texture rubbing.

Students drew their bears on a 9x 12 black paper using white oil pastel.

Next, they colored in the eyes solid white and the nose and ears pink. Using scumbling and rubbing techniques, students colored all around their bear. They were told to not be afraid to get outside of the lines. Once the bear was fully colored, they used black pastel to find the lines and outline all parts of their bear: the eyes, nose, ears....and  add pupils and paws too...

Then students rubbed cold color pastels along with white to create a snowy sky. They had a blast overlapping and blending colors.

They were encouraged to add snow and of course windy lines such as spirals.

We did this for our Friday Challenge.
I think they turned out really adorable.
I love them and so do the kiddos.

They are full of personality!
