Happy Fall Y'all!
Welcome! "Big Brush Creations" is created to showcase work of my PreK- 5th students. Projects shown here are of my own , my take on wonderful art teacher's lessons, art projects found online and in book. Thanks for visiting!
2nd grade did collaborative Monochromatic Portraits to create a ROYGBIV Display.
They were so thrilled to see their work together. It looks fabulous!
3rd grade is working on these fantastic Ceramic Snowmen.
Students fused 3 small pinch pots together using slip and score methods to create the snowmans body.
Students created a coil, a rope of clay, to attach a scarf to their snowman. They also learned easy hand building techniques to create forms for the nose, hat, and ear muffs etc. Using old pencils, the created eyes, a mouth, buttons, and etched pattern details on their work.
They are so cute and unique just like our artists. Students currently are in the process of glazing. Once finished, students will have a battery operated tea light to place inside and light them up.
We are all so excited to see how they turn out.
Stay tuned....
Kindergarten made these fun ceramic trays and bowls.
First students started off by imprinting a leaf to their clay.
I cut PVC pipes down to about 5 inches for students to use as rolling dowels.
Students rolled their dowel over a leaf, back and forth, to make an imprint.
Then using old pencils, Students cut a circle or round shape around their print.
With wax paper they slumped their work over small plastic bowls.
We let them get bone dry, fired, and had fun experimenting with glazing.
Some students traced their leaf with one color glaze and then glazed with another.
Some of the leaf imprints got lost in the color. However, I think they all came out so beautiful. All really unique and fun.
Surely a treasure that students and parents can enjoy.

The students were really excited to take these home.
Sometimes in Art class you share time with different events. So you just got to be flexible and try to find what works for you and your students.
This Jen Stark Drip Art was a great little collaborative project for my 2nd -5th grade. They did this while they were working school wide on a fundraiser.
Students looked at Modern artist Jenn Stark's drip art murals and her fiber art. Students learned how to create a drip that shows movement, rhythm, pattern, and color.
We put all student drip work together to make a large scale drip mural. I think it turned out very fun. I love the positive and negative space of the thin drips and the use of color!
It made a fun display for our Art Walk.
Students really enjoyed this lesson. Altogether it made a fun display!
