It's almost Summer! The temperature is rising and rising. We are in triple digits and dreaming of cool breezes and ocean waves. So why not make some Ocean Fun inspired Art!
2nd Grade had a blast drawing these cool waves and hot suns. They drew the waves and sun first using pencil and traced with sharpie so they could see their lines better. The class talked about how to overlap lines to help create depth in a composition. Then we discussed horizon points. Once they had their waves created, students drew a semicircle and diagonal lines for a blazing sun.
Before drawing the composition, the class discussed why it is important to leave some space between lines while drawing. What would happen when we traced with glue? We talked about how Not to leave big puddles. We talked about hot the glue would eventually settle and some lines would flatten out. We also discussed what to do if you accidentally made a line how to "correct it" and turn it into something. Maybe it's another part of the wave? Or a bubble?
Students had a blast tracing their work in black glue! It was so fun to see them so engaged in the lesson. Many students added extra lines and free styled more movement to their waves.

Some students added bubbles and fish. Once they were done drawing, we laid them flat to dry. This is so important because you do not want their wet work to run.
The next class students watercolored their work using warm and cool contrast. I think they turned about very nice.
