Pop Art Pets

Third Grade is appreciating the art work of Romero Britto. We looked at many of his Pop Art Paintings and focused on his pet paintings.

Students talked about what characteristics his style has and created their own Pop Art Pets inspired by Britto.

Students choose a pet to draw in a simplified way and then divided the pets body by using repeated patterns such as hearts, polka dots, stripes, and zig zags.

Just Look At These Awesome Pets!!
I am so proud of how they turned out.

Pop Art Cubist Owls

1st Grade is studying the Pop Art of Romero Britto. Students watched several short videos about Romero Britto's life as an artist and discussed his pop art style.

Inspired by Britto's style, students created these colorful owls. In this lesson, students were learning to paint complete solid shapes flat and use line, shape, and color to create patterns.

On Day 1, Students first drew a simple abstract cubist inspired owl. Students used lines that divide the space and create complete shapes in their work. Once they had their drawings complete, students outlined all parts using black paint. Lines could be thick and thin, solid, and smooth like Brittos.

On Day 2, Students used tempera paint to paint their owls. They tried to paint inside their shapes using a variety of colors. Colors could repeat in different parts and amounts.  Students were learning to paint solid and smooth shapes using tempera paint.

On Day 3, Like Britto, students added polka dots and simple line patterns to their work using paint sticks. Once they had their patterns complete, students repainted their black lines to make sure they were solid and smooth.

First grade put so much effort into their work and it really shows! I am so proud of them. I think they did a fabulous job learning to paint. These are owls are so fun and full of personality. Students could not wait to take their work home.
