Stacked Critters

Fridays are a busy day in the Art Room.

On Friday, I teach  12 back to back 20 minute classes. Yes 12!  I like to call it "Freaky Friday" and yes there are plenty of  "Art Tornados" on Friday... But it is all in good fun!

I usually have centers for all students and an Art Challenge to keep students engaged.

I'm always searching for good art challenges. I came across a stacked animal drawing  on a website called drawinghowtodraw.com
It has great resources and step by step drawings.

So I put my own twist on it and tweaked it just a tad.

For this challenge, students did a draw along, colored, and painted the background. ALL in 20 Minutes! I have to say, K - 3rd really took to this challenge and their results were so cute...see for yourself..

Friday's Art Challenge Example

On art challenges, I teach students to draw with no fear and go straight to Sharpie. It is part of the Challenge and it saves us time. Really, who has time to trace when you have 20 mins to make a masterpiece! Plus, if the students make a"mistake,"  they are encouraged to turn it into something unique.

After drawing, students colored with Crayon and painted the backgrounds with Tempera Cakes.

These little critter babies came out really cute, and the kids really loved them too.

 Materials:
