Lichtenstein Inspired Zentangle Fruit Bowls
4th Grade
4th Grade loved this project. It was challenging!
Students looked at the Pop Artist Roy Lichtenstein's Still Life With Crystal Bowl, 1973. Class discussed what elements of Art Lichtenstein used to create his work. They talked about Pop Art characteristics and what a Still Life is.
Students worked large scale on 19 x 24 Multimedia paper. All were encouraged to draw big and fill most of the space.
I usually tell my students, "If you draw the first part of the image, line, shape, big then you are forced to draw big."

Once students had their Still Life composition, they outlined it in sharpie. Then they had the option of using washable markers as watercolor or color their work solid. To finish their work, they focused on creating Zentangle patterns in the background.
I loved how they turned out. They sure did an amazing job!
