5th grade students finally finished with their paper mache projects.  

They were a big hit for this years Academic Showcase.

They turned out fantastic! I am so proud of my students!

 This is a fairly long project. If you are curious how the students made these, please look at my early post on how the students assembled their work.

 This sculpture project usually takes my 5th graders at least 8 classes to assemble, papermache, and paint their sculptures. Despite it being a long project, students are very much engaged in their work. Each project is as unique as the child. Students learn so much during the process.

Once their work was assembled and paper mached, students painted it using acrylic paint. Students then use acrylic paint pens to add patterns and facial features. I encourage students to take their time with the patterns and explore line and shape. Last, students mod podged their work. It really gave their sculptures a nice glossy finish.

As the last touch, this student insisted on splatter painting her dachshund.

I love this sea theme. The other side is painted with purple and yellow bubbles. 

For the larger scale sculptures, many students worked after school and during their recess time to finish. They were truly dedicated to their work, and they could not wait to take it home!
